letters encouraging you to release perfectionism, embrace your humanness, and live more intuitively

Love, Simi

Taking your healing, change, growth to the next level [one simple step here]

At least once a day I get a message from someone sharing that they’ve read all the books about intuitive eating, they’re practicing all the affirmations to prioritize rest, they’ve listened to all the self-help podcasts, and/or they are finally promising themselves that they deserve to experience joy + freedom today. Then they go on…

What messages are your clothes sending your body?

All day long, whether you’re looking in a mirror or not, your clothes are sending messages to your body. Close your eyes and do a body scan right now. How do your clothes feel on your body? And what thoughts does it bring up for you? How does it make you feel in your body…

your humanness is not an inconvenience

I had an incredible experience last week in the Mama Glow doula training. One thing I noticed during all the classes was how comfortable I felt to be myself, to meet my needs. To be human. We weren’t just allowed to move, stretch, eat, nurse babies, etc throughout the hours of classes each day but we were encouraged to…

How do I learn how to make the “right” choices with food and exercise?

Monday was the first day of my doula training with Mama Glow and it’s been so incredible. I’ve followed and admired Latham Thomas for years (since back in my corporate attorney days) and am so grateful for this opportunity to be in her presence + learn from her. At the very start of the week, Latham shared…

What I learned from two weeks away from social media…

I just wrapped up two weeks away from social media and, long story short…  It was a pretty incredible experience.  Months ago, when COVID started, I felt myself reaching for my phone more (and more) often. I’d find myself opening up Instagram or my text messages within minutes of waking up. I’d want to check…

Your workout shouldn’t make you feel like sh*t about yourself.

Yesterday, I got an email from a client in UNMEASURED sharing this… UNMEASURED is the first workout that hasn’t made me feel like sh*t about myself. Game-changing. Thank you!!! Just take a minute and let that sink in. REALLY sink in. Your workout shouldn’t make you feel like sh*t about yourself! What are some of the ways that…

What intuitive eating and toddler sleep have in common [it’s way more than you’d think!]

I know the days following a holiday weekend can be extra challenging around food / body image. If you’re feeling the pressure to diet or the negative self talk and food rules are feeling extra loud today, I want to share something with you. When I had Osh almost four years ago, my doula shared…

A question for the people-pleasers out there

If you’re reading this post, then I’m guessing you have identified as a people-pleaser at one point or another in your life. HEY! Me too. It could have been my middle name for a few decades there. And, I’d be lying to you if I said I never have the urge to agree with someone…

A Brief History of Diet Culture

It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve sat down to really write to you.  On Friday, I logged off of social media and won’t be getting back on for at least two weeks. I promise to share more reflections about the time away when I can look back but one of the main reasons for taking…

Feeling relaxed around food, feeling satisfied aft Feeling relaxed around food, feeling satisfied after a meal, no more binges, stress free social eating... all of these things are awesome benefits of intuitive eating. For me, the greatest benefit of all has nothing to do with food. All the hard work was worth it to get to feel present with the people I love (added bonus, one of those people is now me ♥️). It’s about food and, in many ways, it’s not really about the food at all.
Intuitive eating 🥰🧀 Intuitive eating 🥰🧀
34 was the year I fell in love with bourbon, Blund 34 was the year I fell in love with bourbon, Blundstones, & my birthday. I’ve always said ‘I’m not really a birthday person!’ I realized in deep quarantine reflection that it’s actually not true. I just struggled to really open up & receive love from others. 34 was the year that changed for me. I feel so open to receiving love — from others & most importantly from myself. Today was my favorite birthday ever. Not because of any wild celebration (COVID birthdays 😜) but because I just really took it all in. Soaked up every word, every ounce of love. I really let myself receive it all without rushing past it. I’m so grateful & more than that, I’m feeling so full + overflowing with love going into this new year. 35, let’s see what happens! ♥️♥️♥️
Happy world doula week!! 🤎 Summer 2020, at the Happy world doula week!! 🤎

Summer 2020, at the height of the pandemic, a time of much despair, isolation, grief... I had the unexpected joy of going through the @mamaglow level 1 & level 2 doula trainings. At that moment in time, the @mamaglow & @glowmaven took us into their (virtual) arms for a life-changing experience. I don’t think I’ll ever have words to describe the level of deep connection that was felt in those months over Zoom. The magic was palpable.

A connection to the ancient wisdom of birth: a human soul coming into this world through another’s body. Just the most magically wild passage.

Honoring the beauty of birth and the pain. Honoring the birthing person’s feelings, hopes, dreams, vision. Holding space for their fears, trauma, grief, experiences.

Honoring the most natural thing in existence: life. It’s sacred.

And REALLY honoring it, by advocating for safe, supportive, compassionate experiences for ALL birthing people, for ALL humanity.

We are all birthing something! & Birth is ALL of our business — not only is it how we all got here but VITAL issues like the Black maternal health crisis, weight bias, lack of paternity leave, & more are directly impacting human beings in our society as we speak.

@mamaglow is full of incredible resources, information, & support for expectant parents, the postpartum period, on social justice & activism, education + support for birth workers.

All week long, @mamaglow is honoring + celebrating birth workers (vital to supporting & advocating for the wishes, safety, support, & rights of birthing + postpartum parents).

They are sharing self care practices, words of wisdom, tributes & more from amazing doulas in the community — like @namastesee @palmbabydoula @tarathedoula @erindoesdoula ♥️

I’m so grateful to be part of this, sharing one of my favorite forms of self care with the Mama Glow community today: a 20 minute @movementunmeasured barre class (find it on the @mamaglow IGTV ✨).

Thank you @mamaglow for including me. & thank you to all the doulas + birth workers!!! Celebrating you this week + beyond.
