letters encouraging you to release perfectionism, embrace your humanness, and live more intuitively

Love, Simi

You’re Made To Do This

“Humans are designed to be creative” I heard him say. Last night in bed, I was reading my book while Tim watched a YouTube video next to me all about building a shed. It’s a running joke in our house that I tease Tim about his YouTube choices only to find myself sucked in moments…

Here for you this holiday season and beyond

Good morning, friends. WIth the holiday season upon us, I want to offer you some love, warmth, and encouragement. During this time of year, when the food fears can feel extra strong, body thoughts can feel challenging, perfectionism can feel intense, diet culture can feel loud… I hope this space will be a soft place…

To rest or not to rest? That’s the question [& this post has the answer]

You’ve decided you want to have a more intuitive relationship with movement. You want to listen to you body. You’re ready to listen to your body! But… How do you know when to rest v. when to move your body? First, I really want to encourage you to take the pressure off of yourself to…

diet culture + drama-free, intuitive + joy-filled relationship with movement: my holiday gift to you

I spent the weekend decking the halls: decorating the mantle, making wreaths with my mom, mixing up mugs of hot cocoa, and blasting Christmas music way too early. It felt comforting and I am craving comforting. Tomorrow will mark three years since my dad passed away. I shared some thoughts on grief and joy here yesterday. The holidays can be…

Do this for a more joyful relationship with movement!

On Saturday, I did an UNMEASURED barre class with Osh.

It definitely wasn’t ‘perfect’ but we had so much fun. At the end (which was about 12 minutes into class) he said, ‘wow we are as strong as triceratops!’

What do you need to let go of in order to enjoy movement, like a kid, again?

Do You Really ‘Have To’?

What have you been cooking lately? We’ve been cooking in full on fall mode over here: pumpkin mac n’ cheese, pumpkin muffins, so many different kinds of chili, plus this lentil sausage kale soup have all been crowd pleasers. Oh, and I can’t forget the apple honey cake my mom made (like this one here)… truly unforgettable. With my recent…

tv that feels like hug + the [new] story your 10 year old self needs to hear

Would you believe that one of my favorite ways to practice self care is to turn on the TV? Of course a walk outside, journaling, barre class, a hot shower, therapy session, or a phone chat with my best friend are amazing. And, what I’ve found to be true about myself is that often times…

you’re not that special [unexpected encouragement inside]

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been chatting with a client when she shared with me that she feels like she’s the exception to the rule. Everyone else has permission to wear a swimsuit when they have cellulite on their body… but not her. She’s got to have skin that looks like…

What (most of) life is all about

How do you feel in the little, quiet, everyday moments of life? I’m taking a few weeks away from my personal Instagram, which has been so nice. I love that Instagram reminds me of all the wonderful, big moments going on in people’s lives: like new jobs, a program launch, a pregnancy announcement, moves, wedding photos, or…

‘Modification’ Is Not A Dirty Word

Last night, I got to be a guest coach for a group led by my friends Jules and Holly. We chatted all about creating a joy-filled, intuitive relationship with movement (it was so fun). I’m so passionate about this topic, as I truly feel we ALL deserve ease + joy in our relationships with movement & rest….

Feeling relaxed around food, feeling satisfied aft Feeling relaxed around food, feeling satisfied after a meal, no more binges, stress free social eating... all of these things are awesome benefits of intuitive eating. For me, the greatest benefit of all has nothing to do with food. All the hard work was worth it to get to feel present with the people I love (added bonus, one of those people is now me ♥️). It’s about food and, in many ways, it’s not really about the food at all.
Intuitive eating 🥰🧀 Intuitive eating 🥰🧀
34 was the year I fell in love with bourbon, Blund 34 was the year I fell in love with bourbon, Blundstones, & my birthday. I’ve always said ‘I’m not really a birthday person!’ I realized in deep quarantine reflection that it’s actually not true. I just struggled to really open up & receive love from others. 34 was the year that changed for me. I feel so open to receiving love — from others & most importantly from myself. Today was my favorite birthday ever. Not because of any wild celebration (COVID birthdays 😜) but because I just really took it all in. Soaked up every word, every ounce of love. I really let myself receive it all without rushing past it. I’m so grateful & more than that, I’m feeling so full + overflowing with love going into this new year. 35, let’s see what happens! ♥️♥️♥️
Happy world doula week!! 🤎 Summer 2020, at the Happy world doula week!! 🤎

Summer 2020, at the height of the pandemic, a time of much despair, isolation, grief... I had the unexpected joy of going through the @mamaglow level 1 & level 2 doula trainings. At that moment in time, the @mamaglow & @glowmaven took us into their (virtual) arms for a life-changing experience. I don’t think I’ll ever have words to describe the level of deep connection that was felt in those months over Zoom. The magic was palpable.

A connection to the ancient wisdom of birth: a human soul coming into this world through another’s body. Just the most magically wild passage.

Honoring the beauty of birth and the pain. Honoring the birthing person’s feelings, hopes, dreams, vision. Holding space for their fears, trauma, grief, experiences.

Honoring the most natural thing in existence: life. It’s sacred.

And REALLY honoring it, by advocating for safe, supportive, compassionate experiences for ALL birthing people, for ALL humanity.

We are all birthing something! & Birth is ALL of our business — not only is it how we all got here but VITAL issues like the Black maternal health crisis, weight bias, lack of paternity leave, & more are directly impacting human beings in our society as we speak.

@mamaglow is full of incredible resources, information, & support for expectant parents, the postpartum period, on social justice & activism, education + support for birth workers.

All week long, @mamaglow is honoring + celebrating birth workers (vital to supporting & advocating for the wishes, safety, support, & rights of birthing + postpartum parents).

They are sharing self care practices, words of wisdom, tributes & more from amazing doulas in the community — like @namastesee @palmbabydoula @tarathedoula @erindoesdoula ♥️

I’m so grateful to be part of this, sharing one of my favorite forms of self care with the Mama Glow community today: a 20 minute @movementunmeasured barre class (find it on the @mamaglow IGTV ✨).

Thank you @mamaglow for including me. & thank you to all the doulas + birth workers!!! Celebrating you this week + beyond.
